A Salford student has made his on-air television presenting debut in a package for the BBC this week.

Third year BA Broadcast Journalism student Max Hayes was given the chance to present a package for BBC East Midlands Today this week on the rivalry between Leicester Tigers and Nottingham Rugby ahead of their Premiership Rugby Cup contest this evening (Friday 22 November)

The opportunity came during a work placement at the broadcaster for Max, who also works as a Broadcast Assistant for the BBC's local radio stations in Manchester and Stoke, is the host of Nottinghamshire Live's Garibaldi Red podcast and has also done shifts for BBC Radio 5 Live.

With the team needing a presenter on the package, Max put his hand up to volunteer his talents and was then able to secure his first television presenting debut when it aired live on Wednesday 20 November.

He said: "It was an incredible few days at BBC East Midlands Today who looked after me well. The team were lovely and took a real interest in my career and time at The University of Salford studying journalism.

"When the opportunity came to film the television piece I couldn't say no and had to get stuck in. The news days and previous experience from both the course and career taught me just to say yes! It was an amazing opportunity, and I am incredibly grateful to the BBC East Midlands team for giving me the chance."
