Camden County Board of Commissioners Addresses District Attorney Payroll Reimbursement Default

The Camden County Board of Commissioners addressed the recent default in payroll reimbursements from the District Attorney's office for the Brunswick Judicial Circuit, which includes Camden County. These reimbursements were designated to cover the payroll costs for the District Attorney's staff that are paid by Camden County.

The District Attorney's office has failed to reimburse Camden County for these payroll expenses for the months of July 2023, May 2024, and June 2024, which have resulted in an outstanding balance of $58,258.75. As stewards of the county's financial resources, the Camden County Board of Commissioners is committed to ensuring that taxpayer funds are protected and responsibly managed.

The Board of Commissioners has communicated with the District Attorney's office and is willing to enter into an agreement that would resolve this issue through an 11-month repayment plan. This plan would allow the District Attorney's office to gradually repay the defaulted payroll reimbursements in a structured and manageable way, ensuring that both parties can continue their critical work without further disruption.

"It is important that we resolve this matter in a way that safeguards county resources while allowing the District Attorney's office to fulfill its obligations," said Chairman Ben L. Casey. "We are prepared to work together on a repayment plan that ensures accountability and financial transparency moving forward."

The Board of Commissioners values its collaborative relationship with all stakeholders in the Brunswick Judicial Circuit and looks forward to a swift and amicable resolution of this matter.
