Home working scam warning

The Angus Financial Abuse Support Team (FAST) have been alerted to incidents where people looking to secure employment working from home via the internet, have been conned into believing they have been successful getting a job.

The scams can vary. But, for example, a person could be asked to part with cash in advance as an incentive for them to complete a requested task, or to act on behalf of businesses and recruit people. These non-existent jobs claim to offer between $5000 per week, or £40,000 per year.

"Applicants" are drawn into these scams by clicking on bogus links, before providing personal details, including bank and National Insurance numbers.

The FAST, comprises Police, Welfare Rights, Trading Standards, Health and Social Work adult protection. The Team regularly discusses emerging issues, where someone may have been the victim of a fraud, or scam, or who may be at risk of becoming a victim of this type of crime. They offer support to members of the public and try to keep them safe from financial abuse.

Anyone who believes that they, a friend or relative may have been scammed in this way or anyone who has information about this "working for nothing scam" should contact the Angus Health and Social Care Partnership's Adult Protection Unit on 01307 492065 or email [email protected].
