Hoeven: As we Work to Unlock our Energy Potential, Airport Capacity Needed To Support A Growing Economy

Senator Working to Secure Federal Funding for Dickinson Terminal Development Project

DICKINSON, N.D. - Senator John Hoeven today held a roundtable with members of the Dickinson Municipal Airport Authority and local leaders to discuss progress on developing a new terminal building for the Dickinson Theodore Roosevelt Regional Airport. As a member of the Senate Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Committee, Hoeven helped launch this effort in 2022 and has since been working to advance the project, which will support increased air service capacity for the region.

  • In addition to a new terminal building, the project includes a new apron, connecting taxiways, and a new parking lot.
  • This expanded infrastructure will enable the airport to better accommodate increased demand for air service.
    • From 2022 to 2023, enplanements at the Dickinson airport increased by more than 2,500 passengers, a nearly 12 percent increase.
  • Dickinson is expected to begin the bidding process and construction in 2026.
  • The estimated cost of the project is $46.5 million, with Hoeven working to secure federal funding to support the effort.
    • This comes in addition to the nearly $50 million that Hoeven previously secured for the airport's runway extension project, which was completed in 2023.

"With the new administration incoming, we are well-positioned to strengthen our state's economy, particularly as we lift the regulatory burden off of our energy industry and empower the development of all of our abundant energy resources," said Hoeven. "It is critical that we have the infrastructure needed to support the demands of a growing economy, which is exactly why we have worked to advance airport expansions, like the new terminal project here in Dickinson. This effort complements the runway that was completed just last year, and we're working to secure the federal funding needed to move this effort forward."

Today's roundtable comes as part of Hoeven's long-term efforts to support expansions at the state's airports to accommodate population and economic growth, ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of people and goods. In addition to Dickinson, the senator has worked to advance similar efforts across the state, including completed projects at airports in Williston and Minot, and he continues supporting Fargo's airport terminal expansion project.
