Troop C DWI arrests October 2 - October 5, 2024

On October 2, 2024, at approximately 1:34 a.m., New York State Police at Stamford arrested James P. Beaton, age 60 of Harpersfield, NY for the misdemeanor of Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs. Troopers were dispatched to an alarm at the Stewarts on Lake Street. They located Beaton asleep in the driver's seat of his vehicle. Once Troopers were able to wake Beaton, they observed characteristics associated with impairment. After performing Standardized Field Sobriety Tests poorly, Beaton was arrested. He was processed at SP Stamford and issued tickets to the Harpersfield Town Court on October 21, 2024.

On October 2, 2024, at approximately 4:59 p.m., New York State Police at Ithaca arrested Jeffrey Butler, age 57 of Groton, NY for the class "E" felony of Driving While Intoxicated (with a previous conviction within 10 years). A Trooper was dispatched to a single vehicle crash on Cortland Road in the town of Groton. The Trooper discovered that Butler failed to negotiate a curve, went down an embankment and into some brush. The Trooper also observed that Butler appeared impaired. After performing Standardized Field Sobriety Tests poorly, he was arrested. Butler was transported to SP Ithaca for processing then turned over to the Tompkins County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.

On October 3, 2024, at approximately 12:58 a.m., New York State Police at Sidney arrested Danny Clark, age 26 of Tunkhannock, PA for the misdemeanors of Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the seventh degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the fourth degree. Troopers observed a vehicle and traffic violation and initiated a traffic stop on Main Street in the town of Unadilla. While interviewing Clark, a Trooper observed characteristics associated with impairment and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle After performing Standardized Field Sobriety Tests poorly, Clark was arrested. Troopers additionally found suspected illicit drugs and brass knuckles in the vehicle. He was processed and issued appearance tickets to the Unadilla Town Court on October 22, 2024, then turned over to a sober third party.

On October 4, 2024, at approximately 5:05 a.m., New York State Police at Endwell arrested Tyler W. Simons, age 26 of Elmira Heights, NY for the misdemeanor of Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs. Troopers were monitoring traffic on State Highway 17 in the town of Union when they observed a vehicle speeding. A traffic stop was initiated on State Highway 17 near exit 71 in Johnson City. While interviewing Simons, a Trooper observed characteristics associated with impairment. After performing Standardized Field Sobriety Tests poorly, Simons was arrested. He was processed at SP Endwell and issued appearance tickets to the Union Town Court on October 29, 2024, then released to a sober third party.

On October 4, 2024, at approximately 5:45 p.m., New York State Police at Oneonta arrested Shawn M. Oday, age 49 of Otego, NY for the misdemeanor of Driving While Intoxicated. A vehicle was observed failing to keep right and crossing hazard lines while on Main Street in the town of Otego. While interviewing Oday, Troopers smelled an odor of an alcoholic beverage, and he was asked to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. Oday performed SFST's poorly and was arrested. He was transported to SP Oneonta where his reportable B.A.C was .09%. Oday was issued appearance tickets to the Otego Town Court on October 31, 2024, then turned over to a sober third party.

On October 4, 2024, at approximately 7:59 p.m., New York State Police at Homer arrested Zenaida Saldana, age 58 of Fulton, NY for the misdemeanor of Driving While Intoxicated. A Trooper was dispatched to a crash with no injuries on Interstate 81 near mile marker 54.8 in the town of Homer. An investigation revealed that while making a lane change, Saldana failed to observe another vehicle and struck the rear driver's side of the other vehicle. The Trooper also observed characteristics of impairment. After performing Standardized Field Sobriety Tests poorly, Saldana was arrested. Saldana was transported to SP Homer where her reportable B.A.C was .10%. She was processed and issued appearance tickets to the Homer Town Court on November 19, 2024.

On October 5, 2024, at approximately 1:43 a.m., New York State Police at Ithaca arrested Ethan B. Sinn, age 25 of Ithaca, NY for the misdemeanor of Driving While Intoxicated. Troopers were on a traffic stop, with their lights activated on their marked patrol vehicle when a vehicle passed without exercising due care and slowing down. A traffic stop was initiated on Dryden Road in the town of Ithaca. While interviewing Sinn, the Troopers noted an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the vehicle. Sinn was asked to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, which confirmed impairment. Sinn was arrested and transported to SP Ithaca where his reportable B.A.C was .14%. Sinn was processed and issued appearance tickets to the Ithaca Town Court on October 22, 2024.

On October 5, 2024, at approximately 3:50 a.m., New York State Police at Endwell arrested Carter J. Boehme, age 20 of Owego, NY for the misdemeanor of Driving While Intoxicated. Troopers were dispatched by the Broome County 911 Center to a one-vehicle crash on East Main Street where a stop sign, speed limit sign, a NYSEG pole and a parked vehicle were struck. While interviewing Boehme, a Trooper observed characteristics associated with impairment and smelled an odor of an alcoholic beverage. After performing Standardized Field Sobriety Tests poorly, Boehme was arrested. He was transported to SP Endwell where his reportable B.A.C was .11%. Boehme was issued appearance tickets to the Union Town Court on October 22, 2024, then transported to a sober third party.

On October 5, 2024, at approximately 10:15 p.m., New York State Police at Homer arrested Faye A. Strauf, age 54 of Marathon, NY for the misdemeanor of Driving While Intoxicated. While traveling on Route 41 in the town of Cortlandville a Trooper observed a vehicle swerve over the double yellow line and into the opposite lane of travel. A traffic stop was initiated. While interviewing Strauf, the Trooper smelled an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from her breath and other characteristics indicative of impairment. After performing Standardized Field Sobriety Tests poorly, Strauf was arrested. She was transported to SP Homer where her reportable B.A.C was .09%. Strauf was issued appearance tickets to the Cortlandville Town Court on November 4, 2024, then transported to a sober third party.
