27 to 31 May 2024 - QUEZON CITY. The Philippine Statistics Authority's (PSA) Legal Service - Data Protection and Security Unit (DPSU) led this year's celebration of Privacy Awareness Week (PAW).
With the theme: "Data Privacy for All: Embracing Inclusivity and Diversity", the PSA proudly joined the National Privacy Commission in championing data privacy rights of every Filipino.
A total of 742 personnel from the PSA Central Office, Regional Statistical Services Offices, and Provincial Statistical Offices have attended the hybrid session.
PAW 2024 activities include the following: the launch of the DPSU e-Learning Portal, lecture regarding Social Media Security Awareness via Zoom Video Conferencing with Ms. Catherine Zhou, Partner Manager of Meta's Government and Social Impact Partnership team in APAC, Security Incident Management and Breach Reporting with Atty. Rainier Anthony M. Milanes, the Chief of Compliance and Monitoring Division, Data Security and Compliance Office of the National Privacy Commission. Aside from that, online and onsite attendees joined the interactive activities that focused on data privacy and security.
The week-long celebration concluded with the awarding of the PAW 2024 Creativity Contests: TikTok Video Challenge, Videographics and Infographics Challenge winners, as well as the champion of the PAWmily Feud game.
The PSA also awarded Plaques of Recognition to the National Privacy Commission, Department of Information and Communications Technology, Facebook Meta Philippines, and National Intelligence Coordinating Agency for their support in PSA's compliance with the Data Privacy Act of 2012 and other relevant laws.
The PAW 2024 is aligned with PSA's commitment in safeguarding the privacy of all individuals. Through this activity, the PSA emphasized that the right to privacy is a fundamental right that should be accessible to everyone, regardless of background, age, identity, or circumstance.
The PSA's vision for 2025 is to create a more secure, inclusive, and diverse environment where individuals are empowered with knowledge to control their data, and governments uphold high standards of data protection and ethical conduct.
