(JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.)-Farmer-leaders from across the nation elected past president of the Missouri Corn Growers Association Jay Schutte to the National Corn Board today. The election was held during the National Corn Growers Association's Corn Congress currently taking place in Washington, D.C.

Schutte, a corn farmer from Benton City, Mo., represented Missouri corn growers for the more than a decade, sitting on the Missouri Corn Growers Association and Missouri Corn Merchandising Council board of directors for three consecutive terms. Schutte also worked on behalf of corn farmers nationally, having served on the NCGA Risk Management Action Team, chairman of NCGA's Ethanol Action Team, and U.S. Grains Council Asia Advisory Team.

In his speech to the NCGA delegates, Schutte highlighted the grit and determination it takes to farm successfully and pick up and rebuild when roadblocks occur.

"Challenges are bound to come our way, but I am determined to work hard on behalf of all growers," notes Schutte. "It is an honor to be elected to the National Corn Board, and I am committed to showing up everyday to help build markets and protect our right to farm."

Schutte was one of five growers elected to the National Corn Board. He will serve a two-year term. Other grower-leaders elected include Randy DeSutter of Illinois, Jason Lewis of Nebraska, Jon Miller of Ohio, and Dan Nerud of Nebraska. Board members will step into their designated roles Oct. 1, 2024.

During the Washington session of Corn Congress, growers select new national leaders, establish policy resolutions and meet with congressional representatives and administration officials. To learn more about this annual event, visit www.ncga.com.
