Suspect Arrested During Foot Pursuit for Pepper Spraying Officers, Metro Coach Supervisor

Seattle Police arrested a suspect during a foot pursuit for pepper spraying two officers and a King County Metro (KCM) coach supervisor last weekend.

On August 17th at 1:34 p.m., officers on emphasis patrol in the downtown corridor were called to a disturbance on a KCM bus near 3rd Avenue and Pine Street.

They were asked by the county supervisor to remove an unruly suspect causing a disturbance inside.

As police approached the parked transit coach, the suspect exited, and without saying a word, pepper sprayed both officers and the Metro employee in the face and mouth resulting in "pain, irritation and discomfort."

The suspect fled from police and a foot pursuit ensued.

The man was quickly apprehended and taken into custody. He was arrested for two counts of Assault 3rd Degree, Obstructing a Public Officer, and Resisting arrest.

No lasting injuries were reported by the officers or the KCM supervisor. The 48-year-old suspect was booked into King County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail.

Detectives with the Homicide & Assault Unit were assigned to this case.
