Bismarck Fire Department Responds to Fire During Thunderstorm

BISMARCK, ND-The Bismarck Fire Department extinguished a fire in the garage of a single-family home in North Bismarck this morning.

At approximately 7:14 AM on July 31, 2024, Central Dakota Communications received a call for a structure fire at a home on the 700 block of East Calgary Avenue. Bismarck fire crews were dispatched to the scene.

Firefighters arrived on the scene at 7:16 AM to find a single-family house with heavy fire and smoke from the garage. All occupants were out of the home when the fire crews arrived. Fire crews worked through this morning's thunderstorm and hail to extinguish the fire. When the fire was out, they overhauled the garage to find and extinguish any smoldering materials.

Three people and a pet escaped the fire with no injuries and no injuries were sustained by fire personnel.

Fire damage was limited to the garage, which was the room of origin, and smoke damage extended throughout the house. The fire investigation found that the cause of the fire was accidental and involved improper disposal of smoking materials.
