Motorcyclist Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash in Livingston Parish

Livingston - Shortly after 5:30 a.m. on August 22, 2024, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A responded to a two-vehicle crash on LA 444 at LA 63 in Livingston Parish. The crash claimed the life of 46-year-old Jeremy Herrin of Maurepas.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2022 Yamaha motorcycle, driven by Herrin, was traveling westbound on LA 444. At the same time, a 2011 Nissan Frontier was traveling eastbound on LA 444, approaching the intersection of LA 63. For reasons still under investigation, the Nissan failed to yield to oncoming traffic while making a left turn onto LA 63. As a result, the Yamaha collided with the passenger side of the Nissan, causing Herrin to be ejected from the motorcycle.

Herrin was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and was pronounced deceased on the scene. The driver of the Nissan was properly restrained at the time of the crash and was uninjured. Impairment is not a suspected factor in this crash, however, standard toxicology samples will be taken and submitted for analysis. This crash is still under investigation.

Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Never drive impaired, fatigued, or distracted; follow all traffic laws, and always ensure every occupant is properly restrained. Additionally, when riding motorcycles, utilizing proper safety equipment, such as DOT-approved helmets can decrease the chances of traumatic brain injury. We encourage all riders to take an approved motorcycle safety course.
