Auto Club: Gas Prices Move Up Slightly

Gas prices moved up by just two cents or less in most Southern California areas in the past week, according to the Auto Club's Weekend Gas Watch. The average price for self-serve regular gasoline in California is $4.66, which is a penny lower than a week ago. The average national price is $3.19, which is two cents lower than a week ago.

The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $4.59 per gallon, which is two cents more than last week and $1.15 less than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $4.67, which is one cent higher than last week and $1.08 lower than this time last year.

On the Central Coast, the average price is $4.65, which is one cent lower than last week and $1.08 lower than last year. In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $4.45, which is two cents higher than last week and $1.14 lower than a year ago. In Bakersfield, the $4.58 average price is one cent less than last week and $1.04 lower than a year ago today.

"Los Angeles wholesale gasoline prices fell by about 10 cents in the past week but are still about 40 cents higher than at the end of September," said Auto Club spokesperson Doug Shupe. "We may some pump price drops as we near Nov. 1, when gas stations are able to sell the less expensive winter blend of gasoline."

The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on Oct. 17, averages are:
