Chinatown Fire Local Assistance Center - Sunday 9/15

At 3:43 am on Friday, September 13, a multi-story apartment building under construction on New Depot Street in Chinatown caught fire. LA City Fire responded to the major blaze, working several hours to extinguish it, though three nearby buildings were impacted and several dozen local residents and several pets were, at least temporarily, displaced. Two of the structures were red tagged as unsafe to inhabit; two other partially closed.

LA City Recreation & Parks, working with the American Red Cross and other nonprofits, established a temporary shelter that night and provided food, cots, and other aid, at the City's Alpine Recreation Center nearby.

On Saturday morning, a Local Assistance Center (LAC) opened to provide initial recovery services, from 10 am to 4 pm. The LAC will open at 10 am, again on Sunday (9/15) until 2 pm.
