On July 19, 2024, at approximately 4:51 p.m., the New York State Police responded to a two-car head-on collision on I-86 eastbound in the town of Chemung.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2018 Nissan Maxima, operated by a 36-year-old male traveling westbound on I-86, crossed over the median and struck a 2015 Accura RDX traveling eastbound. The Accura had two occupants: an 18-year-old male operator and a 44-year-old female. All three occupants were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The New York State Police were assisted by the Chemung County Sheriff's Office, New York State Department of Transportation, Chemung Fire Department, Greater Valley Emergency Medical Services, and Wellsburg Fire Department.

This is an ongoing investigation.
