Empowering Our Communities: NSW Government Funding Announcement Opens Doors to Vital Opportunities

Many communities in the Warrumbungle Shire Local Government Area could benefit after $70 million worth of funding was announced for communities within the Central West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (REZ)

"The NSW Government recently announced a major funding opportunity for communities within the Central West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (REZ). A total of $70 million in grants is now available under the Community and Employment Benefit program, marking the first tranche of funding from a $128.4 million commitment, Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Ambrose Doolan explained. "This is huge opportunity for our communities to jump on board and bring some funding into local economy benefiting our region."

This initiative aims to ensure that communities throughout the REZ experience direct benefits from the ongoing energy transition well before construction commences. Working closely with local stakeholders, the NSW Government has prioritized areas and needs crucial to community development.

The funding is structured across four key grant streams:
• Local Community Small Grants: A $500,000 allocation for small-scale projects that directly benefit local communities. Applicants can apply for grants up to $50,000 each.
• First Nations Fund: With $10 million set aside for projects empowering local Aboriginal organizations, fostering employment opportunities, and enhancing outcomes for Aboriginal communities. Grants of up to $1,000,000 per project are available.
• Local Community Fund: An allocation of $15 million aimed at improving local amenities and strengthening community bonds. Applicants can request funding up to $1,000,000.
• Legacy Infrastructure Fund: A substantial $45 million fund designed for eligible councils to collaborate with communities on infrastructure projects that enhance livability and stimulate regional economic growth.

"These funding opportunities are not one to be missed, and I encourage all community members and groups, who are within the Central West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (REZ), to explore them through EnergyCo," Cr Doolan concluded.

For more information on these grants and application support can be found on the EnergyCo website.
