Pickett Announces State Grant for Wyoming Healthcare Center

Oct. 10, 2024

HARRISBURG - The Wyoming Healthcare Center (WCHC) today was awarded a $1 million state grant to help with further development of the facility located near Tunkhannock, announced Rep. Tina Pickett (R-Bradford/Wyoming), who worked to secure the funding.

"WCHC is critical to Wyoming County and the health and welfare of all its citizens. The building has been non-operational for several years and cannot properly function without this upgrade," said Pickett. "In order to provide quality, up-to-date medical services and invest in the required equipment to do so, a broadband buildout is essential. I was pleased to be able to advocate for the state grant to ensure the work gets done."

According to the grant application, the WCHC project aims to address the health care needs of Wyoming County through the establishment of a centralized health care hub, provision of broadband access to underserved populations, and collaboration with local businesses and organizations to offer outreach programs. WCHC is located at the former Tyler Memorial Hospital and recently opened its doors to the public. The center currently has 13 tenants offering a variety of health care services.

The funding was awarded through the Multi-Purpose Community Facilities Program administered by the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority. The program offers competitive grants to community anchor institutions and local governments for projects to construct, acquire or improve public facilities, and will directly enable work, education and health monitoring.
