New Municipal Engineer Joins City of Ames

Following an extensive search and a comprehensive recruiting process, Mindy Bryngelson has been hired as the new City of Ames Municipal Engineer. Bryngelson began her new position with the Public Works Department on Sept. 30.

Bryngelson replaces former Municipal Engineer Tracy Peterson, who took a position as the Deputy Director of Development Services in Pima County, Ariz. Peterson had been with the City of Ames for 20 years.

"We are delighted to have Mindy join our organization, and we appreciate the professional experience and skills she will bring to our Public Works Department," said John Joiner, Public Works Director. "Ames is a community that continues to grow and thrive, so keeping our streets, traffic control, and infrastructure maintained and updated is essential."

Bryngelson, a professional engineer, earned her bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Iowa State University. Since 2000, she has been with Clapsaddle-Garber Associates, an Iowa-based civil engineering and surveying company, most recently serving as the Executive Vice President and Secretary of the Board of Directors.

The Municipal Engineer manages the Public Works Engineering Division, which includes design, construction, contract administration, and traffic functions. The position provides professional engineering assistance, prepares the division's annual budget, prepares and implements the Capital Improvement Program, and manages major projects. The Municipal Engineer coordinates construction with private property owners, other utilities, governmental agencies, contractors, and consultants. Other responsibilities include responding to resident concerns and questions, coordinating consultant contracts, reviewing proposed developments to determine impacts on existing infrastructure, and maintaining records on utility locations, annexations, miscellaneous plats, and other documents.
