APCO Announces Final Approval and Publication of New American National Standard

Alexandria, VA - The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International received final approval for APCO ANS 1.124.1-2024 Supplemental Emergency Recommendations on August 19, 2024.

This American National Standard focuses on the recommendation for 9-1-1 calls that traditionally resulted in the dispatch of law, medical, or fire personnel being supplemented or replaced by an alternative responder. This standard addresses how ECCs can incorporate the use of alternative responders into their current call taking processes for non-violent situations.

"Supplemental and alternative response approaches are on the rise," said Stephen Martini, APCO International President. "This standard will help guide ECCs looking to incorporate such approaches into their future operations."
