WestEd Names New Director of Early Childhood Integrated Systems

Krista Murphy has been named Director for WestEd's Early Childhood Integrated Systems (ECIS) work. Murphy, who has served as ECIS interim director, will continue to lead efforts to enhance early childhood systems, ensuring that all children and families have access to high-quality, integrated services that promote optimal development and well-being.

Murphy brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to early childhood education. Her extensive background in leading complex projects, coupled with her passion for supporting young children and their families, drive strategic direction and implementation of key projects aimed at improving outcomes for children from birth to age 5. Murphy will work closely with interested parties across the field to advance sustainable systems that support equitable access to early learning, workforce, and family engagement services.

"By creating integrated systems that support families and communities, we can help build a foundation for lifelong success for all children."

Before joining WestEd in 2020, Murphy developed and led a cross-sector Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS) in Orange County, California, and provided strategic planning and facilitation to Southern California regional QRIS leads. Murphy also served as a governing board member for the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

"Krista's extensive experience in leading transformative early childhood projects, such as the California Rate and Quality Reform, Equity-Centered Quality Rating and Improvement System, and Family Child Care at Its Best programs, showcases her commitment to creating equitable systems for our youngest learners," said WestEd CEO Jannelle Kubinec. "Her visionary leadership will be invaluable as we advance our efforts to create a strong start for all children and families."

Murphy earned a bachelor's degree in child development from California State University, Fullerton; a master of education in cross-cultural education from National University; and a California Multiple-Subject Teaching Credential.
