SRU Music Department to host more than 35 performances this fall semester

Slippery Rock University's Music Department has more than 35 musical performances planned for this fall semester.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University Music Department has a variety of musical performances to enjoy during the fall semester. With events ranging from jazz and symphonic wind ensembles to themed concerts like the ¡CELEBRACIÓN! Hispanic Heritage Voice Recital, the fall semester at SRU is set to hit all the right notes for all types of audiences. From faculty recitals to student showcases, this season promises a diverse and engaging lineup from start to finish.

"The Music Department is incredibly active in various ways with the most public-facing activity being our solo and ensemble performances," said Christopher Scott, an SRU associate professor of music and department chair. "Each season is unique and exciting because of new music and themes., and our conductors each bring their unique artistry to their ensembles."

The SRU music season events include:

  • David Glover faculty recital featuring Jason Kush and Steve Snyder, 7:30 p.m., Sept. 5, in the Swope Recital Hall. The trio will perform original pieces and arrangements of contemporary jazz in this classic jazz instrumentation.
  • Performance Hour, 12:30 p.m., Sept. 17, in the Swope Recital Hall. This Performance Hour concert features SRU faculty.
  • Performance Hour, 12:30 p.m., Oct. 3, in the Swope Recital Hall. Performance Hours are mini concerts featuring music students.
  • Performance Hour, 12:30 p.m., Oct. 10, in the Swope Recital Hall. Performance Hours are mini concerts featuring music students.
  • ¡CELEBRACIÓN! Hispanic Heritage Voice Recital, 6 p.m., Oct. 11, in the Swope Recital Hall. A vibrant evening and experience the passion, beauty, and diversity of Ibero-American Music in a recital that showcases profound contributions of Hispanic composers, honoring the essence of Hispanic Heritage Month.
  • Symphonic Wind Ensemble, 7:30 p.m., Oct. 15, in the Swope Recital Hall. Performance Hour, 12:30 p.m., Oct. 17, in the Swope Recital Hall. Performance Hours are mini concerts featuring music students.
  • Sing Move Play: Halloween, 10-11 a.m., Oct. 19, in the Swope Music Hall, Room G-9. SRU music students will lead participants through activities that explore music through singing, moving and playing. Participants are encouraged to dress up in their favorite costumes.
  • Ronald Phillips Memorial Bassoon Competition, 2:30 p.m., Oct. 20, in the Swope Recital Hall.
  • Performance Hour, 12:30 p.m., Oct. 24, in the Swope Recital Hall. Performance Hours are mini concerts featuring music students.
  • Jazz Ensemble, 7:30 p.m., Oct. 24, in the Swope Recital Hall.
  • Performance Hour, 12:30 p.m., Oct. 31, in the Swope Recital Hall. Performance Hours are mini concerts featuring music students.
  • Chad Williamson Memorial Vocal Competition, 4:30 p.m., Nov. 2, in the Swope Recital Hall.
  • Chamber Music, 7:30 p.m., Nov. 4, in the Swope Recital Hall.
  • Performance Hour, 12:30 p.m., Nov. 7, in the Swope Recital Hall. Performance Hours are mini concerts featuring music students.
  • Percussion Ensemble, 7:30 p.m., Nov. 7, in the Swope Recital Hall.
  • SRU Choirs, 7:30 p.m., Nov. 8, in the Swope Recital Hall. Featuring performances by the University Chorus, Concert Choir and Chamber Singers.
  • Flute Studio: Act I, 7 p.m., Nov. 11, in the Swope Recital Hall. Students will be performing solo flute pieces from the Classical era.
  • Jazz Lab Band & Combos, 7:30 p.m., Nov. 12, in the Swope Recital Hall.
  • Flute Studio: Act II, 7 p.m., Nov. 13, in the Swope Recital Hall. Students will be performing solo flute pieces from the Classical era.
  • Performance Hour, 12:30 p.m., Nov. 14, in the Swope Recital Hall. Performance Hours are mini concerts featuring music students.
  • Flute Ensemble, 7:30 p.m., Nov. 18, in the Swope Recital Hall. Join us for our Flute Ensemble Concert as we explore a broad range of flute music.
  • Performance Hour, 12:30 p.m., Nov. 19, in the Swope Recital Hall. Performance Hours are mini concerts featuring music students.
  • Chamber Music, 7:30 p.m., Nov. 19, in the Swope Recital Hall.
  • Performance Hour, 12:30 p.m., Nov. 21, in the Swope Recital Hall. Performance Hours are mini concerts featuring music students.
  • Symphony Orchestra, 7:30 p.m., Nov. 21, in the Swope Recital Hall.
  • Tuneful Tales, 10 a.m. to noon, Nov. 23, in the Swope Music Hall, Room G-9. An event where children and their caregivers enjoy a concert geared toward children. There will also be multiple pre-concert activities like story time, music and movement, craft time and a singalong.
  • Clarinet Choir, 2 p.m., Nov. 24, in the Swope Recital Hall.
  • Jazz Combos, 7:30 p.m., Nov. 24, in the Swope Recital Hall.
  • Brass Ensemble, 7:30 p.m., Nov. 25, in the Swope Recital Hall.
  • Performance Hour, 12:30 p.m., Nov. 26, in the Swope Recital Hall. Performance Hours are mini concerts featuring music students.
  • Symphonic Wind Ensemble, 7:30 p.m., Dec. 4, in the Performing Arts Center's Miller Theater.
  • Jazz Ensemble Holiday Concert, 7:30 p.m., Dec. 6, in the Performing Arts Center's Miller Theater.
  • SRU Choirs Seasonal Serenade: Lessons of Love, Joy, and Peace, 5 p.m., Dec. 8, in the Performing Arts Center's Miller Theater.
