ASHA Analyzes the 2025 Medicare Fee Schedule for Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists

ASHA Analyzes the 2025 Medicare Fee Schedule for Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists

December 9, 2024

ASHA's 2025 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) resources for audiologists and speech-language pathologists (SLPs) are now available on ASHA's Medicare outpatient payment webpage. These resources analyze the policies in the fee schedule to help audiologists and SLPs understand exactly how any changes will affect them in 2025. The resources also provide 2025 and 2024 national payment rates to help audiologists and SLPs estimate the impact of payment adjustments in the coming year.

The MPFS establishes Medicare Part B policies and payment rates for outpatient audiology and speech-language pathology services. Important policies in the 2025 fee schedule include:

  • Negative payment adjustments applicable to all Medicare providers
  • Changes to therapy plan of care requirements intended to reduce administrative burden
  • Coding updates
  • Telehealth services
  • Quality reporting
  • Alternative payment models.

Most speech-language pathology services provided in hospital outpatient settings are also paid under the MPFS. However, a separate payment system-the hospital outpatient prospective payment system (OPPS)-applies to audiology services provided in hospital outpatient departments. A summary of key issues for the 2025 OPPS is also available on ASHA's website.
