Investigation into Fatal Crash at 800 North Loop West

July 3, 2024- Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 800 North Loop West (North Interstate Highway 610 West) about 4:55 a.m. today (July 3).

The identity of the deceased male, 20, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant L. Ross and Officer J. Campbell reported:

A red Acura sedan was disabled in a moving lane of traffic near the above address when it was struck from behind by a white Freightliner tractor-trailer truck traveling westbound on the freeway. The man inside the Acura was transported by Houston Fire Department paramedics to Memorial Hermann Greater Heights Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The driver of the 18-wheeler, who remained at the scene, was determined not to be impaired and was questioned and released.

Officers learned the Acura was involved in a minor crash with another vehicle prior to the fatal crash.

The investigation is continuing.
