WHEELING, W.Va., Nov. 12 - Wheeling University Accounting students had the opportunity to learn about careers in accounting and business from professionals in the field at the West Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountant (WVSCPA) annual event in Wheeling.
Four Wheeling University students, Mary Ardos, Emily Britton, Avery Henschen and Tessa Tordella joined students from other colleges and universities in the Northern Panhandle at the WVSCPA President's Dinner and Student Night, held at the Wheeling Country Club.
During the social hour, students had the chance to talk with accounting professionals about internships, the CPA exam, accounting skills and careers after graduation. Wheeling students also used this time to learn more from the accounting professionals about preparing for a career in public accounting and how to prepare a professional resume.
"Each year, our accounting majors and minors attended the WVCPA President's Dinner, an event that bridges the gap between academic theory and the professional field," said Dr. Zahra Mohebbi, chair of Business Programs at Wheeling University.
"This event provides students with a valuable opportunity to connect with CPAs from Northern West Virginia and discuss potential internships and job placements. Additionally, students gain insights into recent changes to the CPA exam and learn about essential resources to help them navigate the test, she added."
Also attending the event were other members of the Business Program faculty: David Corbett, assistant professor of Business Administration & Marketing, Lori Parry, assistant professor of Business Administration & Marketing and Dr. Ed Younkins, professor of Accountancy.President of Wheeling University, Dianna M. Vargo, Ed.D., joined the students and Dr. Mohebbi for the evening. "Wheeling University is grateful to the Northern Panhandle West Virginia Society of CPAs for inviting our students to participate in this wonderful learning opportunity. This event afforded our students valuable insights into the accounting field from experienced professionals in the field."
