Cardin Statement on the Ports Strike and Port of Baltimore

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.) released the following statement on negotiations between United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) and the International Longshoremen's Association.

"The Port of Baltimore lost too much time and work because of the tragic collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge. We cannot lose more ground. That said, collective bargaining rights are critical, and I fully support the workers in exercising them. I urge USMX and the International Longshoremen's Association to bargain in good faith to reach a strong contract that fairly compensates workers and supports the safe and efficient operations of the Port. Over the last four years, USMX has made a record $400 billion in profits, and workers who made that possible deserve a much better share of those profits. It is in the interest of both sides and the American people that that an agreement be reached quickly and amicably."
