October welcomes “spooky” themed events to Waynesburg U.

Waynesburg University's Department of Chemistry and Forensic Science will hold its annual Haunted Lab Friday, Oct. 25, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the fifth floor of the Stewart Science Hall, located on the corner of N. Washington Street and E. Wayne Street.

This year, we'll have old favorites such as the screaming gummy bear, monster's toothpaste, and the disappearing ghost along with new experiments that focus on color and photography."

This fun, family-friendly event for all ages is free and open to the public.

Every year, Waynesburg University's American Chemical Society (ACS) Student Chapter and the Department of Chemistry and Forensic Science hosts this event for the Waynesburg community to share a unique and interactive look at the sciences. Attendees will have the chance to see a variety of "spooky" chemistry demonstrations and kid-friendly, hands-on activities.

"This will be the 15^th year that the Department of Chemistry & Forensic Science has hosted the Haunted Lab," said Dr. Evonne Baldauff, chairperson for the Chemistry and Forensic Science and Mathematics, Computer Science and Physics departments. "Hosting an event that gets kids excited about science is always our priority. This year, we'll have old favorites such as the screaming gummy bear, monster's toothpaste, and the disappearing ghost along with new experiments that focus on color and photography. As always, we hope that entire families can come enjoy the activities together."

The University's ACS Student Chapter is continually recognized for its community outreach efforts, which include the Haunted Lab and the Chemistry for the Future event for high school students.

Also occurring this month will be a Haunted House Fundraiser to support the Criminal Justice Club, Forensic Science Club and ACS. This event will be held Friday, Oct. 18, and Saturday, Oct. 19, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the University's CSI House located at 145 First Avenue. The entry fee is $5 for ages 13 and older and $3 for children under 12.
