EU ambassadors visit to Aden

The Ambassadors met the Chairman of the PLC, President Rashid Al Alimi, and reiterated EU's support to the PLC and the Government of Yemen in a context marked by regional escalation and mounting challenges for UN-led peace efforts. They praised the constructive engagement of the Government if Yemen with the UN Special Envoy. They underlined unity remains essential in these challenging times.

The Ambassadors met with Prime Minister Ahmed bin Mubarak, with whom they discussed the Government's five-track reform priorities and EU support, as well as the need to ensure a conducive operating environment for development, humanitarian and civic actors. The Ambassadors also met with Foreign Minister Shaya al-Zindani, as well as with the Minister of Defence, the Minister of Social Affairs and Labour, the Governor of Taiz and the Vice-Governor of the Central Bank of Yemen.

Moreover, the Ambassadors had the opportunity to exchange with groups of Yemeni businessmen, including the Head of Aden's Chamber of Commerce, as well as with Yemeni NGOs and women peacemakers. They also visited several projects funded by the EU and its Member States.

In their meetings, the Ambassadors renewed the EU's strong support to the Government of Yemen's reform agenda, encouraging work to improve the delivery of public services, the stabilisation of the economy and the management of expenditures. They also reiterated the need to advance towards national unity and reconciliation.

The Ambassadors renewed their support to the UN-led peace process towards a just and inclusive political settlement in Yemen.
