Secretary Antony J. Blinken And Costa Rican Foreign Minister Dr. Arnoldo André Before Their Meeting

SECRETARY BLINKEN: Well, good morning, everyone. It's a pleasure to have Foreign Minister André here - a testament to the very strong relationship and partnership between the United States and Costa Rica. Of course, we'll be meeting with our colleagues later today for the Americas Partnership for Economic Prosperity, but it was also vitally important that we have time to spend together on the many issues that join our countries, where we're working together for regional security, for inclusive economic growth, for modernizing our economies and supply chains, and of course dealing together on irregular migration in a way that's humane and makes sure that migration is safe and orderly as well as being humane.

So I very much welcome the opportunity to have you here -

FOREIGN MINISTER ANDRÉ: Thank you.

SECRETARY BLINKEN: - and to continue our conversations, and look forward to it.

FOREIGN MINISTER ANDRÉ: Thank you so much, Secretary Blinken - for my person, and Costa Rica. As a Central American country, it's very important to keep on with a good relationship and a trustworthy relationship with the U.S. - and you, Secretary. It's crucial for our region to develop in good terms the commercial, the personal, and the political aspects of the relationship, and thereby thank for your support that we continuously have received and are receiving from the U.S. in all of the aspects of interest for our economies, and our population, and the prosperity of our people.

SECRETARY BLINKEN: Thank you. Thanks, everyone.
