July 22, 2024 | From New Orleans Fire Department
On Monday, July 22, 2024, at 4:59 p.m., the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) was dispatched to a wood-framed double in the 100 block of South Norman C. Francis Parkway. The first arriving companies were confronted with a fire that had engulfed the left apartment of 118-120 S. Norman C Francis Parkway and extended to the second story of the neighboring duplex at 116 A-B S. Norman C Francis Parkway. After beginning the initial attack of the fires, the incident commander struck a second alarm at 5:13 p.m. The second alarm was a precautionary measure considering exposure to the occupied dwellings and to avoid exposing fire personnel to prolonged periods of heat exposure.
Firefighters conducted a thorough attack to the interiors and attics on both buildings to prevent rekindle and further fire damage. Two cats were rescued from 116 A-B Norman C Francis Parkway.
Seventeen NOFD apparatuses and response vehicles, supported by forty-six fire operations personnel were used to bring this incident under control at 5:45 p.m. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries reported
