The Alaska SBDC is hiring for a business and funding specialist to work with very small businesses (10 employees or less) and socially and economically disadvantaged individuals across Alaska to help them secure federal funding. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of financial institutions and funding mechanisms, experience as a small business owner or working with small businesses, and a high level of comfort developing and delivering training across Alaska (both in-person and remote).
To thrive in this position, the ideal candidate may have knowledge of or experience working with the Alaska Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and the products and services they provide. Experience providing training to rural communities and entrepreneurs is highly beneficial. Previous experience creating training content is advantageous. The candidate should have a solid knowledge of Alaska, including its business and community culture. Prior experience and knowledge of federal loan programs (SSBCI, SBA, etc.) are preferred. The ideal candidate should have experience working with Alaska financial institutions and a history of working with small businesses, particularly in securing financing and financial assistance. An understanding of current small business challenges and technical assistance resources is important. Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations relevant to small businesses is advantageous. The candidate should have experience with economic development, entrepreneurship, and innovation communities statewide. The ability to interface with multiple levels of expertise in a professional, unbiased manner is crucial. Strong public speaking skills are essential. Additionally, being bilingual or multilingual is preferred.
