Skyline Drive reconstruction complete

The City of Mesquite and Dallas County officials recently celebrated the completion the reconstruction of Skyline Drive.

"We truly appreciate the patience and support of our residents and business owners during this time of construction not only on Skyline Drive but earlier on Town East Boulevard," said Councilmember Elizabeth Rodriguez-Ross, who represents District 3 and spoke at the event. "It's not easy to have your most-traveled paths rerouted or unavailable. It takes time to make a change, but I think you'll agree that it has been worth it."

Skyline Drive is an important roadway in Mesquite for corporate citizens and residents alike. The Skyline neighborhood is one of the more active neighborhood groups within the City and the throughfare is home to businesses including furniture wholesaler Elements International and Canadian Solar's new facility.

From Town East Boulevard to Peachtree Road, Skyline Drive was reconstructed into a four-lane divided thoroughfare. The roadway was shifted to the south, providing more distance from the residential area.

The project includes a buffer area with a trail, eight-foot-high screening wall and landscaping, pushing the roadway away from the neighborhood and creating a linear park. The hike-and-bike trail connects to the trail along Town East Boulevard and to a future trail extension at Peachtree Road.

The project, which cost $12.9 million, is the result of a partnership between the City of Mesquite and Dallas County.
