Fayette County Residents Invited To Community Night

Fayette County Night at the Washington Wild Things baseball game takes place August 31.

Uniontown, PA- Going to the game, no matter the sport, is an iconic way to spend some quality time as a family. This month, the Fayette Chamber of Commerce and the Washington Wild Things invite Fayette County residents to pack up the kids and head to the ballpark for a Frontier League baseball game and some good family fun.

Fayette County Night at the Washington Wild Things, hosted by the Fayette Chamber, will be held Saturday, Aug. 31, when the Wild Things take on the Schaumburg Boomers at 7:05 p.m.

Fayette Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Muriel Nuttall said the chamber "is all about working throughout the region to grow our county. Opportunities for our residents to join our neighbors for activities and for our neighbors to learn more about Fayette - who we are and what opportunities exist here - are exciting ways to share our story."

In addition to the game itself, Nuttall said those in attendance can expect an action-packed event.

"These minor league games are always fun - the activities are family friendly and make the games exciting," she said. "We are adding some things like a vendor fair, Fayette County merchandise giveaways and showcasing some of our local groups and activities that will make it even better!"

Washington Wild Things Account Executive Elise Benke said affordable family fun is a hallmark of the organization.

"The Washington Wild Things have always been about providing affordable family fun. Our mission is to entertain our guests, to make them feel comfortable, and to allow them to create special memories and experiences," she said. "Because of our size and because of our brand of professional sports, we have the ability to help families create memories with ceremonial pitches, singing the anthem, participating in on-field promotions, running the bases, getting an autograph and photo with a baseball player…and the list goes on."

"We focus our efforts on family, from children to seniors.," Benke continued. "We try to offer wholesome entertainment that everyone can enjoy."

She said the Wild Things hold a number of family-oriented promotions throughout the season, such as themed kids' days, opportunities for youngsters to run the bases after each Sunday game, and events such as recognition of Gold Star families.

Benke said the Wild Things' "brand of entertainment not only reaches across generational lines, but it also reaches across county lines. One of the initiatives we recently engaged in is community nights, something to offer to people everywhere. We established community nights in order to showcase our unique and affordable brand of entertainment to people who may never have traveled to Washington to experience a Wild Things game. Fayette County is one such community. We believe we share similarities in philosophy and in growth. Fayette is a growing community with families, and the Washington Wild Things Park is a growing community asset that relishes families. We hope our neighbors in Fayette County will visit us and take advantage of the entertainment we offer."

Fayette County will be well-represented in the stands, and even on the field for the first pitch.

"We are looking forward to the opportunity to showcase the major industries that make up Fayette County," Nuttall said. "We'll have representatives sharing the first pitch(es) from our healthcare, manufacturing, agricultural, tourism, and energy industries."

Nuttall said the chamber has received a great deal of support and assistance in putting the day together.

"The Fayette Chamber membership is incredible in terms of support for events. There are so many people who have stepped in to help and who are excited about hosting this community day at the ballpark," she said.

Among those looking forward to the evening is Fayette Chamber board President Connie Slampak.

"As a matter of fact, I immediately bought a whole row of tickets for my family and friends," Slampak said. "It's a fun way to bring Fayette County families and businesses together to meet, show our pride in the county and enjoy the all-American pastime at a great price. The Fayette Chamber has always been about celebrating our community and the families that live here, so this event is a perfect way to bring us all together. I would love to see this become an annual event!"

Nuttall agreed.

"I think that would be wonderful," she said. "We're hoping that we get a good representation from the county so that we'll know that this is a welcome addition to our list of activities each year."
