Macomb County works to bridge talent gap with “Find your future workforce” webinar, invites local businesses to get involved

In an effort to connect employers with future talent, and those individuals with career opportunities, Macomb County Planning and Economic Development (MCPED) will host, "Find Your Future Workforce" webinar on Nov. 12 from 10-11 a.m.

The virtual event will support the county's Fueling the Talent Pipeline (FTTP)initiative, which aims to build tomorrow's workforce today by establishing relationships between organizations and local k-12 schools that offer related career training.

"Our partners play a key role in Fueling the Talent Pipeline," said MCPED Director Vicky Rowinski. "By pairing local businesses with Macomb County schools, we are able to expose students to career experiences such as tours, job shadows and internships. These experiences not only give students insight into what their future career could look like, but it also potentially fuels the pipeline for those businesses."

Talent shortages continue to be a problem. Workers are needed to fill jobs at all levels and across all industries. From entry positions, to those requiring advanced degrees and training - employers are struggling to remain fully staffed. The FTTP initiative is Macomb County's response to this issue.

"FTTP is a collaborative and community-driven effort that works with employers and schools to address the talent gap," said Jennifer Weot, senior outreach specialist, MCPED. "We've seen real results from this program where students find their career pathway and pursue their passions. This gives them the opportunity for meaningful career exploration before the next stage of their lives, and it gives them the tools to succeed. In tandem, businesses benefit too because they're building their next generation workforce."

The Nov. 12 webinar will feature:
  • John Onofrey, Regional Chief Nursing Officer at Henry Ford Health, a participating organization of the FTTP program
  • Christine Akroush, Academy Coach for Center Line High School
  • Jennifer Weot, Macomb County Senior Outreach Specialist
  • Students who benefited from the FTTP program

Organizations that are interested in hearing more are welcome to join. There is no cost to attend, but registration is required. For more on Fueling the Talent Pipelineor to sign-up for the program, visit the Fueling the Talent Pipeline main page.
