PennDOT Changes Traffic Pattern for I-80 Preservation Project

09/12/2024

Clearfield, PA - The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that the contractor for an Interstate 80 preservation project between mile markers 97 and 120 in Clearfield County changed the traffic pattern on I-80 and Route 153 earlier this week. This project will improve the ride quality and extend the service life of nearly 24 miles of roadway and six bridges along this I-80 corridor.

The contractor closed the left (passing) lane on I-80 westbound at mile marker 111 to reconstruct the roadway under the Route 153 overpass. It also closed the right (travel) lane of Route 153 northbound heading toward Penfield and closed the on-ramp to I-80 westbound, normally accessible via that lane. Northbound traffic will now access I-80 westbound by turning left and crossing both southbound lanes of Route 153 to use the southbound on-ramp. Signing and channelizing devices will be in place to direct traffic.

PennDOT anticipates this traffic pattern will remain in place until the end of October. All work is weather-dependent.

Overall work on this project involves paving, bridge improvements, installation of Intelligent transportation devices, guide rail installation, pavement marking, and miscellaneous construction. HRI, Inc., of State College, is the contractor on this $47.7 million project. PennDOT anticipates project completion in November 2025. All work is weather-dependent.
