Foss Clinic, Bush Pavilion entrances to temporarily close as Geisinger Medical Center road project advances
DANVILLE, Pa. - The next phase of Geisinger Medical Center's road work on Medical Center Drive in front of the hospital will include temporary closure of two hospital entrances.
Temporary traffic signals will also be installed near the front of campus.
Starting Nov. 4, traffic in front of the hospital will revert to a one-way loop pattern to accommodate the work.
This will result in temporary closure of the hospital's Foss Clinic and Bush Pavilion entrances. Instead, patients and visitors should use an alternate entrance, such as the Abigail (main) entrance or the Hospital for Advanced Medicine to access the hospital during this time.
To reach the main entrance, motorists should enter Medical Center Drive near Geisinger Janet Weis Children's Hospital and continue to the Abigail (main) entrance, which will remain open during this phase. Past the main entrance, traffic will be directed onto a temporary road, exiting near the Pine Barn Inn.
The section of Medical Center Drive between the Abigail (main) entrance and Center Street, near the Henry Hood Center, will be closed during this phase. Drivers should follow directional signs in this area.
The campus will also begin using temporary traffic lights where North Academy Avenue and Medical Center Drive meet. While the temporary traffic pattern is expected to remain in place until February 2025, the traffic lights will stay up for the next few years to manage traffic through most of the campus improvement work.
During the Foss Clinic and Bush Pavilion entrance closures, valet parking will continue but will move to the Abigail (main) entrance.
Valet parking, including free service for people age 65 and older and patients with disabilities, is also available at the Hospital for Advanced Medicine entrance.
The full road project - which is expected to be complete in early 2025 - will replace the old one-way loop with a two-way street featuring separate drop-off loops for patients, public transportation and valet parking.
Interior work in parts of the hospital will also begin in November to prepare for demolition of the Dickey Clinic and MRI building to make room for a new patient tower.
Visitors should allow extra travel time in case of construction delays, and drivers should be alert for new traffic patterns throughout the improvement project.
The Pine Barn Inn will remain open throughout the project.
