WASHINGTON - Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that Southwest Tennessee Community College (STCC) will receive a grant of $885,504 from the U.S. Department of Education's Basic Needs - Supporting Student Success Program. The funding will support on-campus food pantries, free bus passes, and a kiosk to help students connect with local, state and federal benefit programs, among other things, for an estimated 700 students over three years. The goal is to reach higher retention levels and increase degree or certificate completion by reducing "basic needs insecurity."
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
"Low-income and other disadvantaged students will benefit from this grant, which will improve access to the basic needs that will keep them in the classroom and completing their studies."
