(OAKBROOK TERRACE, Illinois, December 9, 2024) - The Joint Commission and Joint Commission International (JCI) proudly announce that Modern Healthcare has recognized their President and Chief Executive Officer Jonathan B. Perlin, MD, PhD, as one of the 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare of 2024.
This prestigious recognition program acknowledges and honors individuals whom their peers and the senior editors of Modern Healthcare deem as the most influential figures in the healthcare industry in terms of leadership and impact.
Dr. Perlin is recognized for his significant achievements in driving patient safety and quality of care for all patients globally. Under his leadership, The Joint Commission introduced eight new U.S. accreditation and certification programs over the past year to address grand challenges related to healthcare equity, environmental sustainability and the responsible use of health data. In September 2024, JCI and the Geneva Sustainability Centre launched an international Healthcare Sustainability Certification. Dr. Perlin currently co-chairs the National Academy of Medicine's Decarbonizing the U.S. Health Sector, Policy, Finance and Metrics workgroup.
Reducing administrative burden to allow frontline workers more time with patients is another priority area for Dr. Perlin. He directed the elimination of over 350 standards (with the addition of only one on healthcare equity) in 2023. Additionally, to further its mission, The Joint Commission recently announced two collaborations led by Dr. Perlin to strengthen and develop the healthcare workforce:
Dr. Perlin is dedicated to mentoring the next generation of healthcare quality and patient safety leaders. In 2024, Dr. Perlin established the President's Fellowship Quality and Safety. Dr. Perlin also teaches and mentors through faculty appointments at Vanderbilt University and Virginia Commonwealth University and is an advisor for the Health Policy program at Columbia University.
"Our list of the 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare reflects the important contributions of the men and women who have helped shape the industry in 2024," adds Mary Ellen Podmolik, editor-in-chief of Modern Healthcare. "They come from all corners of the industry and their leadership has been felt from the doctor's office to Capitol Hill. We look forward to these honorees continuing to wield their influence to protect and improve patient care."
