RTI’s Dr. Keith Levine promoted to vice president of discovery sciences

Levine brings 25 years of experience in analytical chemistry and demonstrated leadership to the position

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. - Nonprofit research institute RTI International has announced the promotion of Keith Levine, Ph.D., to vice president of discovery sciences.

In this capacity, Levine has strategic and operational accountability for a diverse staff of more than 160 scientific professionals involved in drug discovery, analytical laboratory sciences, drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics, and other fields. The discovery sciences team supports a wide variety of clientele, including those in the domestic private sector, the U.S. federal government, state and municipal governments and trade associations. He brings more than 25 years of experience to the role in inorganic analytical chemistry, strategic planning, staff development, business development, program management and administrative leadership.

"I am excited that Keith will be serving in this new leadership role," said Eddie Story, RTI general counsel, corporate secretary, and executive vice president of discovery sciences and technology advancement and commercialization. "As an analytical chemist, he has a passion and proven track record for finding solutions to major scientific challenges, which will further enhance our lab strategy. In addition, Keith is an engaged leader focused on staff development and cross-institute collaboration."

He has led or collaborated on hundreds of projects during his RTI tenure, including work that has had tangible impact on regulatory policy intended to protect the public from known and emerging contaminants including hexavalent chromium, engineered nanomaterials, and more recently, lead as part of RTI's Clean Classrooms for Carolina Kids project. He joined RTI as an intern in 1997 and has since served in several technical and administrative leadership positions.

"During my RTI career, I've had the opportunity to work with outstanding scientists across the institute," said Levine. "I'm honored to now lead my talented colleagues in discovery sciences who are conducting impactful research in drug discovery and other disciplines. The institute's new lab strategy will allow us to scale our impact considerably as we work to develop and test treatments for diseases like cancer, mental health conditions and substance abuse addiction."

Levine has authored or coauthored nearly 90 articles in peer-reviewed journals, including the American Journal of Epidemiology, Biological Trace Elements, Environmental Research, Environmental Science and Technology and Environmental Health Perspectives.

In addition to his position at RTI, Levine holds several adjunct faculty appointments.
