City of Ventura selects new public information officer and communications manager

Ventura, Calif.- The City of Ventura is proud to announce the selection of Jennifer Buckley as its new Public Information Officer (PIO) and Communications Manager. With over six years of dedicated service to the City, she has played a critical role in enhancing public engagement, strengthening community outreach, and leading strategic communication efforts across multiple departments.

"Jen has been an essential member of our team, consistently demonstrating her leadership in communication and public relations," said City Manager Bill Ayub. "Her dedication to the City's mission, combined with her innovative approach to public engagement, makes her the perfect fit for this role. I am confident that under her leadership, our communications will continue to thrive and effectively connect our community."

Buckley will oversee all external communications, manage media relations, and develop strategic messaging to keep the public informed about City initiatives, services, and events. In addition, she will serve as the primary media spokesperson and lead crisis communications, ensuring transparent, timely, and accurate information is shared with residents and stakeholders.

"Having called Ventura home for most of my life, I recognize the vital importance of keeping our community connected and informed, especially during critical moments like emergencies," said Communications Manager and Public Information Officer Jennifer Buckley. "Building on the strong foundation laid by my predecessor, I am honored to continue serving the community I love and excited to lead our award-winning communications team in delivering essential information about City programs and services to my fellow residents."

Most recently serving as the Senior Communications Specialist and Deputy Public Information Officer in the City's Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during COVID-19, Buckley led communication efforts for key initiatives, including the General Plan, Active Transportation Plan, VenturaWaterPure, and the Ventura Online Permitting System (OPS). Her work was recently honored with an Award of Distinction for video production from the California Association of Public Information Officials (CAPIO).

Buckley holds a Master of Business Administration from California State University Channel Islands and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Business Law and Economics from California State University Northridge. Buckley began in her new role on October 12, 2024.
