We're putting the Tinsel back in Tinsel Town this Christmas with a Lewiston City Library Staff Christmas Movie Showdown. Alternative titles included 'A Christmas Snowdown' and 'It's a Wonderful Library'.
There is so much to love about the holiday season from peppermint mochas and extravagant light displays to presents under the tree and seasonal films. Normally, we would provide you with a list of movies that you might like and in a way we are still doing that, but with a twist. This year the Lewiston City Library staff took a little poll on our favorite family films for the holiday season. Out of the 12 films staff had to choose from these are our top 3 favorites and a couple of honorable mentions.
#3. A Charlie Brown Christmas- Released Dec. 9, 1965
Charlie Brown and his Christmas conundrums is the LEW Staff's #3 pick for our favorite Christmas movie. 21.4% of us agreed that Charlie Brown and the gang is our favorite family holiday film. Because the true meaning of Christmas is not entering a Christmas light display contest to win money, money, money.
#2. Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer- Released Dec. 6, 1964
You won't be late to elf practice with our number 2 pick. Another 21.4% of staff voted this timeless story as their favorite family film for the holidays.
#1. A Muppets Christmas Carol- Released Dec. 11, 1992
First there was Charles Dicken's novel A Christmas Carol published in 1843. Then there were the plays, ballets, and the movies made in 1901, 1908, 1938, 1951,1984, 1999, and 2012. But all of them were deceived for a greater and more superior version was made. Filmed deep within the studios of Jim Henson and forged with good cheer of song and dance, came the 1992 muppet classic: A Muppet's Christmas Carol. 30% of the staff agrees. A Muppet's Christmas Carol is the superior version.
Our Honorable Mentions:
While they didn't quite receive enough votes to make our top three, these films still deserve a lot of love and a place on your holiday movie list.
H.M #1 The Santa Clause- Released Nov. 11, 1994
This more modern classic surely deserves a place on your viewing list this holiday season. It's all about family and believing in the magic of Christmas.
H.M. #2 Elf- Released Nov. 7,2003
This film turned 21 this year. My how time flies for this festive, fun, family movie. Embrace learning to be true to yourself, the importance of family, and that the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear. Also the nostalgic nod back to Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer is fabulous.
