Camilla Police Requests GBI to Assist in Shooting Investigation

Camilla, Georgia (August 23, 2024) - At the request of the Camilla Police Department, GBI agents are investigating a shooting in Camilla, GA.

On Thursday, August 22, 2024, about 6:50 p.m., Camilla Police requested GBI assistance regarding the shooting of two men, ages 19 and 22, by another man, age 19, at a mobile home in the 5000 block of Lori Lane in Camilla, Georgia. Camilla Police initially responded to a call of two people shot in this area. When officers arrived, the two victims were located and immediately given medical care. Both men were later taken from a local hospital to out of county hospitals for additional required medical procedures. Both men suffered serious injuries.

Preliminary information has revealed that the shooting was unintentional, and the men were not targeted. Witnesses interviewed by the GBI and Camilla Police, along with evidence from the crime scene examination supports this. The condition of the victims will be monitored, and agents will collaborate with prosecutors about their findings in the investigation and any appropriate charges if deemed necessary. There have been no criminal charges filed at this time concerning the shooting.

This case is active and ongoing and anyone with information on this case is asked to call the GBI Thomasville Office at 229-225-4090. Once complete, it will be turned over to the South Georgia Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office for prosecution.
