Cincinnati Children’s and First Ladies to host 10th annual Family Health Day this Sunday, Oct. 13, at 10 area churches

Cincinnati Children's will again partner with First Ladies for Health for this year's Family Health Day, which will take place at 10 churches across the region this Sunday, Oct. 13.

The program will feature free health screenings and flu vaccines for children and adults. The annual event also will feature health education, raffle prizes, gift cards, refreshments and important health resources for participants - plus games and activities geared to kids and teens.

All members of the public are welcome to attend the family friendly event, which will take place rain or shine. Dozens of organizations are collaborating with Cincinnati Children's and First Ladies to stage Family Health Day.

Cincinnati Children's has worked with First Ladies for Health on Family Health Day since 2014, when the program originated (it wasn't held one year because of the COVID pandemic).

First Ladies for Health, a faith-based organization composed of pastors' wives, empowers parishioners and community members to make informed health choices about their physical and mental well-being.

"This year is special because it will be the 10th anniversary of the event," said Regina Lynch, First Lady of New Prospect Baptist Church in Roselawn and a co-chair of First Ladies for Health. "It is exciting to see people young and old get flu shots and connect to resources.

"We talk with members of our church year-round and encourage them to take charge of their health," added Lynch, the wife of Pastor Damon Lynch III. "This message is especially important this time of year when we are going into flu and cold season."

Cincinnati Children's experts and volunteers will be present at all 10 locations, providing information and activities for children and teens. In partnership with Kroger, Cincinnati Children's will offer flu shots at all locations at no charge for anyone 6 months or older. In addition, Cincinnati Children's clinical staff will offer free vision and dental screenings along with information on sickle cell disease, dental care and asthma.

"The goal of Cincinnati Children's strategic partnership with the First Ladies for Health is to work together to reduce health disparities, achieve health equity and improve overall health in communities," said Ebony Washington, manager of Community Relations for the health system. "Our work with the First Ladies over the past 10 years is achieving that goal."

• Carmel Presbyterian Church, 3549 Reading Road in Avondale, noon to 3 pm
• Corinthian Baptist Church, 1920 Tennessee Ave. in Paddock Hills, 12:30 to 2:30 pm
• Gray Road Church of Christ, 4826 Gray Road in Spring Grove Village, 12:30 to 2:30 pm
• Mother of Christ Catholic Church, 5301 Winneste Ave. in Winton Hills, 1 to 3 pm
• New Jerusalem Baptist Church, 26 W. North Bend Road in Carthage, 10 am to 2 pm
• New Life Temple Church, 4836 Ward St. in Madisonville, 1 to 3 pm
• New Life Missionary Baptist Church, 6434 Simpson Ave. in College Hill, 12:30 to 2:30 pm
• New Prospect Baptist Church, 1580 Summit Road in Roselawn, 9 am to 2 pm

More than 20 organizations will participate in Family Health Day. Sponsors include Cincinnati Children's, Kroger, the Center for Clinical & Translational Science & Training, Interact for Health, Aetna and Cincinnati State.
