CBSA to Require Steel Importers to Report Country of Melt and Pour

In an update published on the Government of Canada website, new regulations have been introduced that will require steel importers to report the country of melt and pour (COM) to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).

As part of the terms and conditions outlined in General Import Permits 80 and 81, importers will need to retain and provide, upon request, a mill test certificate or other documentation confirming COM information for any applicable steel transaction. The COM will need to be transmitted to CBSA through their Single Window Integrated Import Declaration (SW IID) release system.

The COM requirement will go into effect on November 5, 2024.
