Prairie View, Texas (Nov. 6, 2024) - Prairie View A&M University is set to honor the achievements of 726 students during its 29th Fall Commencement on December 13-14, 2024. This year's ceremonies will feature keynote addresses from two prominent leaders in higher education and finance, who are known for their influence in their fields and their dedication to service and community impact.
The Fall Commencement, which will take place in the William "Billy" J. Nicks, Sr. Building - affectionately known as the Baby Dome - will recognize the accomplishments of students across undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs.
Dr. Monica Williams to Speak at Friday's Ceremony for Doctoral and Master's Candidates

Kicking off the weekend's events on Friday, December 13, will be Dr. Monica G. Williams, the newly appointed President of Texas Woman's University-Houston Campus. Williams, a well-respected figure in higher education, has built a remarkable career focused on growth, partnerships, and philanthropic efforts. Since taking the helm at TWU-Houston Campus in August 2024, she has worked to strengthen the university's connections within the Texas Medical Center, the largest life sciences destination in the world.
Before her role at TWU, Williams served as the foundation president and vice president for advancement at the University of North Texas at Dallas. During her nine-year tenure, she played an instrumental role in increasing enrollment by 60% and was a key architect of the university's strategic plan. A graduate of Texas Southern University and Prairie View A&M, where she earned her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership, Williams is recognized for her contributions to education and community engagement across Texas.

TIAA CEO Thasunda Brown Duckett to Address Saturday Undergraduates

Saturday's ceremony on December 14 will feature Thasunda Brown Duckett, President and CEO of TIAA, as the keynote speaker. Duckett leads one of the nation's largest financial services firms dedicated to retirement and investment solutions, with a mission focused on financial inclusion. Under her leadership, TIAA has broadened its impact beyond higher education to support Americans across various sectors in securing a stable financial future.
Duckett's influence extends beyond the boardroom. She serves on several prominent boards, including those of NIKE, the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights organization, and Sesame Workshop. A University of Houston alumna with an MBA from Baylor University, Duckett's inspiring journey from Texas to the helm of a Fortune 500 company embodies resilience and dedication to service. In addition to her corporate role, she actively supports initiatives benefiting underrepresented communities, making her a fitting speaker for a university committed to empowering future leaders.
