Canadian Chamber Statement on the ILWU Local 514’s decision to issue 72-hour notice of intended strike action at a DP World (Canada) terminal in British Columbia

"ILWU Local 514's decision to issue 72-hour notice of intended strike action at a DP World (Canada) terminal in British Columbia is extremely concerning.

Last year's 13-day strike resulted in exports from B.C.'s ports falling by 23% in July, hitting their lowest point since the COVID-19 pandemic began, as it impacted $800 million worth of cargo flowing through West Coast ports every single day.

Government simply can't allow our B.C. ports to shut down for a second year in a row - they need to act as swiftly as possible to prevent a repeat of the impact on Canadian families, Canadian businesses, and the Canadian economy."

Pascal Chan, Senior Director, Transportation, Infrastructure & Construction, Canadian Chamber of Commerce
