Vigyanotsav-2024: a celebration of science at ICGEB New Delhi

The two-day symposium event featured 25 research presentations from 2nd, 4th & 5th-year PhD students.

The International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), New Delhi, hosted its inaugural student science symposium, Vigyanotsav-2024, on 25-26 July, 2024. This two-day event marked a significant milestone for ICGEB, featuring research presentations by students from the 2nd, 4th, and 5th-year batches. The symposium provided a platform for students to showcase their research achievements and engage in scientific discussions with peers and the mentors.

The event was jointly inaugurated by former ICGEB New Delhi Director, Dr. Dinakar M. Salunke, and Director, ICGEB New Delhi Dr. Ramesh S. Sonti. Their presence and words of encouragement set an inspiring tone for the symposium. Throughout the two days, students presented their research projects in the presence of all Group Leaders and fellow students, fostering an environment of collaborative learning and idea-exchange.

In total, 25 students belonging to different batches and research groups presented their research. The presentations highlighted the diversity and depth of research being conducted at ICGEB, reflecting the institute's commitment to advancing knowledge and innovation in the field of genetic engineering and biotechnology. The sessions were marked by lively discussions, constructive feedback, Q&A and the sharing of ideas, useful for the growth and development of young researchers.

In addition to the scientific sessions, Vigyanotsav-2024 also featured a vibrant cultural program organized by the ICGEB student community. This cultural event, held towards the culmination of the symposium, showcased the talents and creativity of the students, adding a touch of festivity to the academic gathering.

The symposium concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Jitendra Thakur, Group Leader Plant Transcription Regulation and overall coordinator of the symposium. In his closing remarks, Dr. Thankur expressed gratitude to the Director, former Director, Group Leaders, student participants and the organizers for their contribution to the success of the event. He also announced that the student symposium would now become an annual tradition at ICGEB New Delhi.
