County Commissioners award grants
for municipal park improvements

FREEHOLD, NJ - The Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners awarded grants totaling more than $6.4 million that will help fund municipal park improvements to representatives of 21 municipalities through the 2024 Municipal Open Space Grant (MOSG) program during a workshop meeting on Oct. 10.

The MOSG program has become one of the most successful Commissioner-sponsored programs and is the primary method by which the County assists municipalities in meeting the recreational needs of residents. The program provides vital funding that helps municipal officials meet their local open space acquisition, recreation, historic and conservation goals.

"The MOSG program is one of many ways in which the County works cooperatively with municipal partners to ensure local parks are built and upgraded for our residents," said Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone. "Having beautiful parks and open space provides a great way to help residents maintain and improve their physical and mental health. The Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners is proud to be able to offer this successful grant program to all Monmouth County municipalities and encourages residents to visit the scenic parks throughout our County."

"The Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners recognizes municipal officials work hard to meet the increasing park demands in their communities," said Commissioner Deputy Director Ross F. Licitra, liaison to the Monmouth County Park System. "Unfortunately, the demand for funding from the municipalities may exceed the funding we have available and we have to make tough award decisions, but we will always work with our municipal partners to affirm Monmouth County as the best place to live, work and raise a family."
