Nature of Incident: Criminal Sexual Conduct, Child Abuse, Possession of a firearm in the commission of a Felony

Jesse Lee Stone 46 year old male from Gobles area

Stephanie Nicole Stone 38 year old female from Gobles area

Charges:

Jesse Stone was arraigned on multiple counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct and Child Abuse. His bond is set at $750,000.

Stephanie Stone was arraigned on multiple counts of Child Abuse. Her bond is set at $100,000.

Narrative:

Sheriff Daniel E. Abbott reports that on 06/29/2024 Deputies with the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office were contacted by a Deputy from LaGrange County Sheriff's Office in Indiana, in regard to child sexual abuse and physical abuse occurring in our jurisdiction. LaGrange County was able to provide detailed information related to the abuse. Van Buren County Sheriff's Office with the assistance of Van Buren County CPS were able to gather enough evidence to arrest both parties involved.

A search warrant was drafted for the residence, which had an in-home daycare. It is not believed any children who attend the daycare portion of the home were being abused, but we are continuing to investigate this matter further.
