Sheikhul Islam of Thailand welcomes and discusses with Grand Imam Sheikh of Al-Azhar

On 6 July 2024, His Eminence Mr. Arun Boonchom, Sheikhul Islam of Thailand, received Professor Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Ahmed El-Tayeb, Grand Imam Sheikh of Al-Azhar of Egypt, at the Sheikhul Islam Office, during the latter's visit to Thailand as Guest of the Royal Thai Government during 5-8 July 2024.

On this occasion, Sheikhul Islam of Thailand expressed appreciation for the visit of Grand Imam Sheikh of Al-Azhar. Both sides discussed ways to enhance Thai-Egyptian cooperation, particularly in the field of education, religious and cultural affairs. Afterwards, the Sheikhul Islam also hosted a luncheon in honor of the Grand Imam Sheikh of Al-Azhar at the Main Conference Hall of the National Islamic Affairs Administrative Center.

In the same afternoon, the Grand Imam Sheikh of Al-Azhar delivered a special lecture to almost 1,300 audiences including leaders of five religions (Islam, Buddhism, Christianity, Sikhism, and Hinduism), academics, alumni of Al-Azhar University and students. The lecture highlighted the importance of peaceful coexistence in societies with religious and ethnic differences, the moderate way of Islam, as well as the advocation of Interfaith Dialogue and tolerance at local, regional and international levels.
