Continual vigilance, prompt reporting needed to protect installation from IEDs

RICHMOND, Va. -

During Antiterrorism Awareness Month, Security and Emergency Services is highlighting the importance of employees engaging in continual vigilance and the proactive reporting of suspicious items at Defense Supply Center Richmond.

Per the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, improvised explosive devices remain a persistent threat globally. They kill, injure, and intimidate citizens and disrupt transportation and the flow of commerce.

IEDs are one of the most accessible weapons to terrorists and criminals to damage critical infrastructure and inflict casualties. The tactics used in IED attacks evolve as the nation's adversaries seek to overcome countermeasures. Employees should strive to be more vigilant against these threats to effectively support the safety and security of the Installation.

To deter, detect, delay, deny and defend the installation from an IED attack, S&ES engages in an aggressive Random Antiterrorism Measure Program, which uses varying measures, locations, times and days. The ability to effectively mitigate an IED attack at DSCR depends on a vigilant workforce complimented by a proactive RAM Program.
