Construction on SH-55 from Farmway Road to Middleton Road begins Friday

NAMPA-The Idaho Transportation Department will begin construction Friday to widen State Highway 55 from Farmway Road to Middleton Road with Leading Idaho funds.

This project will:

  • Widen SH-55 to four lanes with dedicated left and right turn lanes at major intersections, including wider shoulders.
  • Install a raised median from 10th Avenue to Middleton Road that will restrict access at unsignalized intersections every half mile. Drivers will only be able to turn right or left onto side streets. They will not be able to make left turns from side streets onto the highway.
  • Add a separated bicycle and pedestrian pathway on the north and south sides of SH-55 and a pedestrian undercrossing east of 10thAvenue near Vallivue Middle School.
  • Upgrade signal equipment at major intersections.
  • Build soundwalls at Crestwood Estates, Fieldcrest Village and Lakeview Apartments.
  • Pave a frontage road west of 10thAvenue on the north side of the highway.

"SH-55 is a vital corridor for Canyon County and the state of Idaho," Resident Engineer Andrew Linder said. "This project will improve safety and mobility."

This project is part of a multi-year effort to study and improve the SH-55 corridor throughout the state with Leading Idaho funds. These funds are a deliberate investment to allow ITD to accelerate project timelines to address rapid growth and build critical infrastructure today that would otherwise take many years to build.
