National Tree Week takes place from Saturday 23 November until Sunday 1 December 2024.

Knowsley Council is encouraging residents to take some time to grow your tree knowledge.

Organised by the Tree Council, National Tree Week is the UK's largest annual tree celebration. Each year, the country's conservation sector, volunteer groups and tree-lovers come together to plant thousands of trees to mark the start of the tree planting season and share resources about all things trees.

Knowsley has thousands of trees across the Borough which play an important role within our communities due to their ability to prevent flooding, improve mental wellbeing, aid in carbon capture and improve soil health. There are a lot more roles that trees play which is why its important they are looked after, maintained and planted.

Cllr Shelley Powell, Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods, said: "National Tree Week is a fantastic opportunity for residents to find out more about horticulture and growing their own tree. We are also running a number of free events across the Borough so I'd encourage you to come along and find out more.

"It is also a chance for residents to get out in some of our Borough's green spaces and take time for themselves. That could be going for a walk and identifying the different types of tree or simply enjoying some peace and mindfulness amongst them."

During National Tree Week, Knowsley Council is running free events in the Borough's parks and green spaces, open to everyone, to support residents to get involved and find out more about the importance of trees within the Borough.

Environment Centres

Throughout the week, you can drop in to the Environment Centres at Court Hey Park, Halewood on Okell Drive and Stadt Moers on Pottery Lane to find maps, tree identification worksheets, trail maps of local trees and develop your tree knowledge.

Tree Themed Walks

During the Council's regular health walk programme, Rangers will be adding information about local trees, the benefits and support you how to identify tree species.
